Your phone line and what Ava says

Your number stays yours. Ava gets her own, and you decide which calls reach her — the ones you would have missed, the after-hours ones, or all of them.

Nothing about going live moves your number. Forwarding is a setting at your phone carrier, you control it, and you can turn it off in a minute if you hate it. Most shops start by forwarding only the calls they would otherwise miss, which is the honest version of "we answer every call" — the alternative for those calls was voicemail.

The three ways to forward

  • Missed calls only. Ava picks up what would have gone to voicemail. Nothing else changes.
  • After hours. Your office takes the day; Ava takes nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Everything. Ava is the front desk and you stop thinking about the phone.

What a caller hears

Ava opens by saying she is the shop's AI assistant and that the call may be recorded. She is not pretending to be a person, and callers are told so before they say anything they would not want recorded.

After that she does one of four things, and the order matters:

  1. Safety firstIf a caller mentions a gas or burning smell, smoke, sparks, a carbon-monoxide alarm or someone hurt, she stops and tells them to hang up and call 911. She does not book, quote or keep talking. Nothing outranks this.
  2. Urgent, but not 911A leak spreading across a floor, no cooling in July, half a house without power. She takes the address, reads the callback number back to confirm it, marks the call urgent and it goes to the top of your list.
  3. Book itRoutine work goes into a real open time. She checks the calendar before she offers a slot and only confirms once the booking has saved.
  4. Take a message worth readingWhen the caller wants a person, or it is something she should not book, she takes the name, a read-back number, the address and what they need.

Prices on the phone

Ava quotes from your price book and nowhere else. She gives the number as a "starts at" price and says the tech confirms the final figure before starting work. If a service has no price on file, she says she cannot quote it rather than guessing — which is the behaviour you want the first time a caller asks about something unusual.

What she cannot do yet

AbilityStatusWhat happens today
Live call transferComing nextShe takes a detailed message and flags the urgent ones.
Spanish-speaking AvaComing nextShe answers in English.
Customer text messagesAfter carrier approvalShe confirms the details out loud on the call instead.

Texting is not a switch we are choosing not to flip. Sending business texts in the United States needs your shop registered with the phone carriers first, and until that clears, automatic customer texts stay off. We would rather say that than quietly drop messages.

Every call, written down

Each call lands in Calls with a one-line summary, the full transcript, the recording and what happened next — booked, message taken, or needs a callback. You can hear exactly what was said to your customer, which is the part most shops have never had.

Still stuck?

Ask Ava. She answers questions about Aestar itself — pricing, setup, what she does on a call — and she will tell you when something is not built yet.
